Welcome to Mid/High
Today, Mrs. Jenkins’ government class from Mescalero Apache Schools attended the Mescalero Apache Tribal Elections to interview candidates running for Tribal Council. Each group of students prepared three questions to ask the candidates, allowing them to compare responses and gain a deeper understanding of the issues and candidate perspectives. This hands-on experience supports Mrs. Jenkins’ goals of teaching students the importance of informed voting and exercising their freedom in the democratic process. For those students who were 18, it was an especially meaningful day, as they were able to vote for the first time, actively participating in their community’s governance and applying what they’ve learned in class.
